HyperDocs
The new unit this week was HyperDocs. There are many beneficial reasons as to why this is a great way for students to get more involved in a lesson, and research more about the topic they are learning about. However, while some students learn better hands on, others might learn better when a teacher is giving the information. As a college student, looking back, I have done hyper-doc work in classes but did not know what it really meant.
The dictionary term for a hyper-doc is a digital document, such as a google doc or slide, where all components of a learning cycle have been pulled together into one central hub. Within a document, the students are provided with hyperlinks to resources that they need to complete the assignment.Technology is a major factor in today's generation. It is used for basically everything, everyday. In a classroom, teachers use hyper-docs for lessons this way students can engage on their own and do their own research while learning. It makes learning easier, I would say, because it provides resources for the student to go off of, but also allow the student to think. In addition, hyper-docs allow students to engage, explore, explain, and share their thoughts and ideas. The lesson will include a video explaining the topic, a link to resources about the topic, and an area where students apply their work and answers. Lastly, the final section is where the student writes about their reflection. In addition, the student will set goals and state how they will apply these goals.
With further research, I found an interesting topic in relation to a hyper-doc. This was an Earth Day HyperDoc from an elementary sample. I found it interesting because my SDG is 15, Life on Land, and I think it's important for young generations to learn about a topic as provided! This link provided shows all the correct materials for what a hyper-doc stands for. First, it contains two links to two different videos about what Earth Day is and how animals connect with this day. Second, it contains a link to a reading about reasons to love the Earth and why that is important. It also includes a link to what recycling is, and why that is also important. Everyone does not need to recycle, but allowing students to understand why it's important can benefit society as a whole to keeping the Earth healthy. Third, it allows for the student, who is learning at an elementary level, to explore the national geographic for younger students. This is very beneficial for students because this specific link allows for them to go through different sites and learn so much just from one link. All of these links relate to what a hyper-doc should include, stated before, explore, explain, apply and extend. Finally, all of these have a section to the right for the student to provide their answers to each category. This, again, allows for the student to think further than what the different links are teaching.
